Summary

In Iowa, all electric utilities, regardless of whether they are rate-regulated by the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) or not, must provide their customers with the option to support renewable energy through green power programs. These programs are designed to enable customers to contribute voluntarily to the development of renewable energy sources within the state. To ensure transparency and regulatory compliance, utilities are required to submit their green power program plans and tariff schedules to the IUB. While the submission for non-rate-regulated utilities serves primarily for informational purposes, it still plays a crucial role in fostering the growth of renewable energy by allowing customers to actively participate in and support green energy initiatives. This requirement underscores Iowa’s commitment to promoting renewable energy and involving both utilities and consumers in the state’s green energy future.
