Summary

Please note, the budget cap for this program has been reached.

In May 2005, Washington passed Senate Bill 5101, initiating production incentives for individuals, businesses, and local governments generating electricity through solar, wind, or anaerobic digesters. This incentive was revised in June 2010 through Senate Bill 6658. The incentive value depends on the system’s use case and the fiscal year of installation.

The customer-generator retains the renewable energy credits (RECs) generated, with no transfer to the state or utility.

Utilities in the state are responsible for disbursing these incentives and will receive a tax credit equivalent to the amount paid.
